When the Gamache Team were kids, back to school was an exciting time! School began after Labor Day, giving us the entire month of August to play, go on vacation, and stay out late!
Back to school shopping meant new clothes and shoes, and we filled our backpacks with the famous Pee Chee folder, spiral notebooks, a handful of pens and pencils, and a zest to hang out with our school buddies!
Our classrooms were filled with some new teachers, some oldies but goodies who refused to retire, and brightly decorated walls. Lunch was spent haggling our friends, checking out the new kids, and shooting hoops at recess.
The New School Year in the Tri-Valley
For Alameda County school children, back to school 2020 is going to be completely different. Online learning will replace classroom learning at least at the beginning of the year, and the only contact with teachers and friends will be via a computer screen.
Parents will not be juggling making lunches and carpools; they will be juggling work schedules, multiple school schedules for multiple children, and no after school daycare or activities.
What’s a parent and child to do to keep safe, secure, satisfied, and sane?
Consider using The Gamache Team’s Back to School Survival Guide, links to activities for every family member to provide entertainment, enrichment, and fun during these unprecedented times.
Live, Interactive Classes and Camps for Kids in the Tri-Valley Area
While the idea of having kids spend more time on the screen may make some parents concerned, these live and online camps provide everything from homework help to enrichment programs.
If your child is interested in activities such as kids coding, LEGO, yoga, music, science, math, art, or cooking, you might want to consider downloading the ActivityHeroApp and checking these classes out.
A detailed description of classes and camps is available online as well, with early bird discounts and inexpensive classes available for all ages.
Breathe…an Introduction to SKY Breath Meditation
If the idea of relieving stress and anxiety appeals to you as an adult, you may want to consider enrolling in Beyond Breath – An Online Introduction to SKY Breath Meditation. This online class teaches you to “Discover the power of your breath to relieve stress, ease anxiety and calm your mind in a free LIVE and interactive session” and is available throughout August.
Parents, this just might be the answer to “How am I going to cope with work, different schedules, and kids being schooled at home?”
